Chartre

Warning: This is a long one! :o) Yesterday was glorious because we (my aunt and uncle and great-aunt) all drove to a city called Chartre, up North, to tour the famous cathedral! It was such an amazing structure! (Europe never ceases to amaze me!) Chartre Cathedral burnt to the ground in 1194, but was rebuilt in 1260...yeah, it's old! :oD

These are a few outside shots of this awesome structure. The tower on the left is the bell tower, and we climbed up its (over) 300 steps to the top. The view was lovely!

These carvings were once painted --such detail!

This cathedral is known for its stained-glass windows.

These stone carvings display Mary's life (daughter of Saint Anne, as they believe in the Catholic church) 'till her being crowned in Heaven by Jesus, her Son. :o) Interesting; but, they were SO well done! It took over 200 years to carve all of it. (This picture shows about a quarter of what is there.)
